SPRECHER BREWING CO. FAST FACTS
·
Hometown:
Glendale, Wis., a Milwaukee suburb.
·
Business:
An award-winning microbrewery that produces more than 11 European styles of
beer and seven different gourmet sodas.
·
Founded:
In 1985 by Randy Sprecher, an entrepreneur.
·
Number of employees: 32.
·
Reason for contest entry: “Not only is the office out of date
visually and technologically, it is dull, dull, dull. Almost oppressively so.”
·
Why it won: Outdated technology: Sprecher Brewing
Co. stood out as the most outdated office in terms of technology, business
processes and design. Top office challenges include:
o
Lack of technology: only one printer and one fax
machine for the entire office; need for a more efficient system to handle billing, record keeping, information
storage and dissemination, and creative marketing.
o
A cluttered and unorganized working space, in which storage amounts to several old,
vertical, letter-sized filing cabinets that are placed between the men’s and
women’s bathrooms.
o
Office
furniture that looks like items collected from various rummage sales.
o
Old,
diamond-shaped wood paneling and green marble wainscoting on the walls and an
industrial green carpet that is at least 10 years old.
·
Why it
won: Most deserving:
o Donates thousands of dollars worth
of products – last year it participated in more than 25 fundraising events –
for organizations such as the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Milwaukee
Athletes against Childhood Cancer.
o All proceeds from children’s factory
tours are donated to a variety of children’s charities.
o Operates its own charity festival –
“Sprecherfest” – a two-day family-friendly event that raises up to $20,000
annually for the local public television station. This year marks the 17th Sprecherfest.
